Our second entry in our Producer era Miniscopes sees us tackle the John Wiles era, a controversial six months in Doctor Who’s long history that ushered in great changes and foreshadowed a great many more. Joining us to discuss the finer points of this tumultuous time is Toby Hadoke, and we also bring you an interview with Peter Purves, who played Steven Taylor throughout the Wiles era. Before that, Simon Harries drops by to discuss the news of the week with Steven and Warren. A jam packed episode, to be sure! |

| Some more guests have been added to the already impressive bill at the upcoming Gallifrey One convention in February 2014! |
An acting legend in the UK since the 1960s, and famous for the series 1970s series Upstairs, Downstairs, Jean Marsh has had some notable brushes with the Doctor Who world. Previously married to Jon Pertwee, Jean first appeared on Doctor Who in 1965’s “The Crusade”, then followed it up by playing short term companion Sara Kingdom in the epic “The Daleks’ Master Plan” later that year. Jean returned to Doctor Who in 1989 to portray Morgaine in “Battlefield”. This will be Jean Marsh’s first appearance at Gallifrey One. |
Kate O’Mara played the villainous Rani in two stories – Season 22’s “The Mark of the Rani” and Sylvester McCoy’s debut “Time and the Rani” from Season 24. The plot of the latter story called on Kate to double for Bonnie Langford in disguise as Mel, and Kate now replaces Bonnie Langford at Gallifrey One as Bonnie has had to pull out of attending the con! Funny how these things work out. 2014 will be Kate’s first appearance at Gallifrey One. |
Jacqueline King played the disappointed mother to Catherine Tate’s underachieving Donna Noble in the 2006 Christmas Special “The Runaway Bride”. Jacqueline would reprise the role in Series 4 and 2009-10’s “The End of Time”. 2014 will see the first appearance at Gallifrey One for Jacqueline. |
Famous in recent years for appearing in a variety of Tim Burton productions including Big Fish and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and perhaps best know now as being Scotty’s alien companion Keenser in the new Star Trek films, Deep Roy played the role of Mr. Sin in the iconic 1977 serial “The Talons of Weng-Chiang”. He also appeared in the flesh as The Klute in the beloved Blake’s 7 episode “Gambit”. This will be Deep’s first appearance at Gallifrey One. |
Friend of the show Toby Hadoke returns to Gallifrey One with a Friday night performance of his hit comedy show “My Stepson Stole My Sonic Screwdriver”. Toby first wowed Gally with his 2009 show “Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf”, and he has also been omnipresent on many classic series DVD commentaries and extra features. |
Jamie Glover has yet to appear in the Doctor Who universe, but he will be playing William Russell in Mark Gatiss’s An Adventure in Space and Time that will be broadcast in November. Also, Jamie comes from an impressive Doctor Who acting pedigree, as both his parents Julian Glover (“The Crusade”, “City of Death”) and Isla Blair (“The King’s Demons”) have appeared on the show in the past. This will be Jamie’s first appearance at Gallifrey One. |
Nev Fountain makes his return to Gallifrey One since the 2009 edition of the convention. Nev is well known for his work on the comedy series Dead Ringers, but he also written several Doctor Who audio plays for Big Finish, and created the popular audio series Mervyn Stone about a crime solving ex-script editor of a popular science fiction show! |
![]() Ellie Darcey-Alden and Joseph Darcey-Alden are real life siblings, and they played onscreen sister and brother Francesca and Digby in the 2012 Christmas special “The Snowmen”. This will be the Darcey-Aldens’ first appearance at Gallifrey One. |
| Check out the full list of guests on the Gallifrey One website. Stay tuned to Gallifrey One and Radio Free Skaro for future guest announcements! |

| The Doctors Revisited series on BBC America has been a great way to introduce NuWho viewers to the different characterizations of The Doctor as well as giving them a glimpse into the Classic Series; the DVD releases of these episodes conclude on December 3 when the third volume hits store shelves.
Along with the documentaries highlighting each of the Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh Doctors, the set will include the new series episodes Bad Wolf and The Parting of the Ways for Eccleston’s Doctor, The Stolen Earth and Journey’s End for Tennant’s Doctor and lastly The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon for soon-to-be-departed Matt Smith’s Doctor. A week later, on December 10, folks on this side of the Atlantic can also lay their hands on the upcoming 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of the Doctor. The Blu-Ray version will be an all-encompassing Blu-Ray/DVD/3D Blu-Ray release, making it a pretty cool value if you can actually view it in 3D. Doctor Who Explained, previously referenced on Radio Free Skaro, will be included as a bonus; other extras have yet to be announced, though scuttlebutt says An Adventure in Time and Space may be amongst those final extras. MSRP for the 3-disc The Doctors Revisited: 9-11 will be $39.98; The Day of the Doctor will have an MSRP of $24.98 for the DVD release and $29.98 for the Blu-Ray release. | With the Regenerations box set, perhaps rightly, bypassing North America, those of us in Region 1 will be looking forward to November 19 for a pre-anniversary treat. The Tenth Planet, a seminal story in Doctor Who’s history, will see its DVD release on this side of the Atlantic.
Bonus materials, aka VAM, included on the release naturally mirror those of the Region 2 release and include the reconstruction of Episode 4 that appeared on the VHS release early last decade, the eagerly-awaited William Hartnell interview, commentary and more – and of course this features the animated version of Episode 4 previously released with the Regenerations box set version. UPDATE: Doctorwho.tv have released the full details of the release! Read about it here. A bumper 2-DVD set, MSRP for The Tenth Planet will be $34.98. Check TVShowsOnDVD.com for more details! |

The Three Who Rule welcome back our very good friend Chip from the Two-minute Time Lord podcast as we all talk over Neil Gaiman’s most recent Doctor Who effort, Nightmare in Silver. Has some time and distance since the story’s initial broadcast allowed our hearts to warm to it more, or was the extremely divisive reaction from fandom warranted and still valid? Will the effort satisfy 80s Hair Band pedants? News of the week, with Chip filling in for a very busy Warren, and which includes talk of what might just be the worst merchandise tie-in ever, rounds out this episode of Radio Free Skaro. Excelsior! |

“Whimsical yet terrifying” is an apt way to describe “The Crimson Horror,” this week’s commentary, but also an accurate portrayal of current Who news. What missive struck fear into the stalwart hearts of the Three Who Rule? Possibly the fact that CBC executives wanted to dub over Christopher Eccleston’s Northern England accent with something more suitable to Canadian ears. Perhaps a Newfie accent would have made more sense. Or perhaps it was the notion that filming on Series 8 of Doctor Who won’t begin until January? The horror continued with a discussion of David Lee Roth’s storied career, what constitutes a bad fan (hint: probably everything) and more! And that’s before the commentary, with special guest Deb Stanish of the Verity Podcast! Enjoy!
