DoctorWho_TerrorOfTheZygons
Terror of the Zygons, a long-anticipated DVD release, doesn’t have a formal release date in North America, but cover art has been made available for the upcoming 2-disc set.

Zygons has a September 30, 2013 release date in the UK; it would not be surprising to have the North American release hit store shelves on October 8, the usual second-Tuesday-of-the-month release slot.

Until a formal release announcement is made, enjoy the cover art! Click on the above image for a larger version.

rfs371The Doctor Who rumour mill was in full blown chaos this week with Twelfth Doctor casting rumours giving way to tales of hoards of missing episodes being recovered. The Two Who Rule (Chris managed to escape the mongering of said rumours) neatly sidestepped harmless (or harmful) speculation by delving into talk of the future of the film industry and 3D TV and its relation to Doctor Who. But Chris returns (and Warren departs) to talk to Neil Perryman, dear friend and author who is writing the upcoming Adventures of the Wife in Space book, based on his hugely successful blog. Listen on!

rfs370Another week and still no new Doctor Who. The long 6-month wait for the 50th Anniversary Special means speculation about the show’s future in the form of the next actor (or will it be actress?) to play The Doctor. But it’s not all bad as there are always stats to be had, always new Doctor Who merchandise to be discussed and/or mocked and of course talk of DVDs and just how lucky we are as Doctor Who fans to have the Restoration Team. Featured in this jam-packed episode of Radio Free Skaro is an interview with Michael Damian Thomas, who as co-editor of Queers Dig Time Lords, talks about the queer segment of Doctor Who fandom and what draws people to our beloved show. Enjoy!

August 2013 North America Doctor Who DVD Releases

<![CDATA[

DoctorWho_GreenDeathSEDoctorWho_SpearheadFromSpaceSE_BLU
August 13 brings to North America two Doctor Who releases from the Jon Pertwee era, including the first (and only) original series story to be released on Blu-Ray.

The Green Death gets the Special Edition treatment, and will hopefully include Death of the Doctor, the Sarah Jane Adventures story, which will appear on the region 2 release. Full extras for Region 1 have yet to be announced. This post will be updated when details are known, and also when proper artwork is available. Extras will include dual commentaries, an interview with Robert Sloman, the aforementioned Sarah Jane Adventures episodes, documentaries and more.

On the same day, those of us in Region A will also be able to buy the oft-rumoured and soon-to-be-tangible Blu-Ray release of Jon Pertwee’s debut story, Spearhead from Space. As with its companion release, no details or final artwork have been made available. We anticipate a great deal of popularity with this release, despite the fact the BBC has already double-dipped (now triple-dipped) with releases of Spearhead. Bonus features on the release include a piece on Caroline John, a comparison of the newly-restored version with what came before, and more.

MSRP for The Green Death, a 2-disc release, will be $34.98; MSRP for the single disc Spearhead is $29.98. Package art will be added once available; the artwork above is from the UK releases. Click on the artwork above for larger images, and check TVShowsOnDVD.com for more details!

Radio Free Skaro #369 – A Tale of Two Doctors

rfs369In an uneventful, post finale, nothing ever happens week, The Three Who Rule….wait, HOLD ON, JUST A SECOND…..Chris isn’t on the show this week. Oh, and also, Matt Smith is leaving Doctor Who.

Yes, the floppy haired foetus who charmed his way into our hearts in the Eleventh Hour has decided to vacate the TARDIS, but not before the 50th Anniversary and Christmas specials this year. Smith’s tenure spanned arguably the greatest period of global mainstream popularity the show has ever seen, and it is likely the search and selection of the next Doctor will garner more than a little attention from both fans and the not-we. Let the speculation, tears, jeers, madness, forum bile and lunacy begin! We also have news, japes, Warren trying and failing to explain Guardians of the Galaxy to Steven, and a winner for our DVD caption contest! Hooray!

Gallifrey One 2014 Guest Update

<![CDATA[

2014-logo-space-final
Some big name Doctor Who actors, and one new series director, have been announced for the Gallifrey One convention in February 2014! (And the Gallifrey One website has received a makeover, as well!)

nicolabryantNicola Bryant played Peri (Perpugilliam Brown) across three seasons from 1984-86, arriving in dazzling fashion in “Planet of Fire” and exiting the series in the shocking “Mindwarp”. Nicola has since reprised the role on several occasions in Big Finish audio dramas. Nicola will be making her first appearance at Gallifrey One since 2009.
CaroleAnnFordThe very first companion actress in the long history of the show, Carole Ann Ford played The Doctor’s granddaughter Susan from 1963-1964, reprising her role in 1983’s The Five Doctors. Carole previously appeared at Gallifrey One in 2002, and was slated to appear at Gally in 2013 before having to bow out, so we’re delighted to be able to see Carole Ann next year!
matthewwaterhouseOne of the youngest companion actors ever to appear in Doctor Who, Matthew Waterhouse played Adric for two years, joining the TARDIS team in “Full Circle” (1980) and exiting the series in the staggering “Earthshock” (1982). Matthew last appeared at Gallifrey One in 2011.
stuartmilliganStuart Milligan is an American actor based in the UK, and thus was perfect casting as President Richard M. Nixon in “The Impossible Astronaut” and “Day of the Moon” from 2011. Milligan also voiced the character of Colonel Stark in 2009’s animated story “Dreamland”. Stuart will be making his first appearance at Gallifrey One.
nabilshabanThe most iconic villain of the Sixth Doctor era, and one of the most memorable characters in the entire history of Doctor Who, was Sil, who appeared in Vengeance on Varos and Mindwarp. Sil was brought to life with amazing relish by Nabil Shaban. Nabil will be making his first appearance at Gallifrey One in 2014.
lachelecarlWhenever news broke in the Russell T Davies era of Doctor Who, Trinity Wells was there. Lachele Carl played the fictitious American news anchor on several episodes of Doctor Who, The Sarah Jane Adventures, and Torchwood. Lachele will be making her first apperance at Gallifrey One.
veliletshabalalaThis may be open to debate, but Rosita Farisi, who was companion to David Morrissey’s “Doctor” (real name: Jackson Lake) in 2008’s “The Next Doctor”. Regardless of companion canon debates, actress Velile Tshabalala played Rosita in the episode, and will be making her first Gallifrey One appearance in 2014.
stevehughesSteve Hughes has (to date) only directed one episode of Doctor Who, but in directing 2011’s “Closing Time”, he help bring to life the reunion between actors Matt Smith and James Corden, who had last appeared together the previous year in “The Lodger”, as well as offer fans their first glimpse of a Cybermat in the new series. This will be Steve’s first appearance at Gallifrey One.
Check out the full list of guests on the Gallifrey One website. Stay tuned to Gallifrey One and Radio Free Skaro for future guest announcements!

Radio Free Skaro #368 – Click here to listen!

rfs368It may be six months until new Doctor Who, but…we’ve got stats! So, so many stats. Also, Warren gets a lot of facts wrong (as usual), we’ve invented an exciting new drink called “whiskwee”, and for the first time in RFS history, we have a contest to win a DVD box set of Series 7 and The Snowmen! Check our Facebook page on Monday, May 26 for all the details on how you can win these shiny platters of loveliness.

But while you wait to pitch wits against your fellow Whovians, listen to the Torchwood panel from last month’s Calgary Expo featuring the brilliant bon mots of John Barrowman, Eve Myles and Gareth David-Lloyd and moderated by Steven. Fun was had! Pants were shed! And swears were uttered, so keep the kid lets away (or wear headphones) as we shred the iTunes “explicit” tag into a million tiny pieces.

rfs367Well, the most recent series of Doctor Who has wrapped up, and what a way to do it – a fangasmagoria from Steven Moffat containing notable nods to the past and tantalizing hints of what’s to come. “The Name of the Doctor” gave fans what they wanted (and more) in a 50th anniversary story, and it was six months early! But what did the Three Who rule think of this extravaganza? Also discussed in this episode were the now assured future of Doctor Who and the show’s return in Series 8, stats, more stats, and the potentially damaging effects of Eurovision. And now, six months to wait until more new Doctor Who…but what else does the BBC have in store before then?
