The days are long and the news is sparse, but that didn’t stop the Three Who Rule from tackling a smattering of stats and DVD news in order to get to the important stuff, a commentary for “An Adventure in Space and Time”. Chris was available for the news but wasn’t for the commentary, so in his stead TV historian and bon vivant Simon Harries lent his considerable knowledge to an analysis of Mark Gatiss’ love letter to Doctor Who’s fascinating origins. Gallifrey One 2014 Guest Update

Some more guests have been announced for the upcoming Gallifrey One convention next month!

Tom Price was one of the most popular recurring characters on Torchwood, playing PC Andy Davidson throughout all four series of the Doctor Who spinoff. Tom is also a successful stand-up comedian in London. This will be Tom’s first appearance at Gallifrey One.

Tracey Childs appeared onscreen in Doctor Who for the first time in 2008, playing future Doctor Peter Capaldi’s wife Metella in 2008’s “The Fires of Pompeii”. However, Tracey has acted with several other Doctors (some, like David Tennant, before they were involved with Doctor Who) in many Big Finish audio dramas since the early 2000s. Tracey’s first North American convention was at Chicago TARDIS in November 2013,and this will be her first ever Gallifrey One.

Emma Campbell-Jones has appeared in Doctor Who twice – once as Dr. Kent in 2011’s “The Wedding of River Song”, and she had a small, but ultimately memorable, appearance as Cass in “The Night of the Doctor”, which re-introduced Paul McGann to the world of televised Doctor Who in November 2013. This will be Emma’s first appearance at Gallifrey One.

Jane Goddard has voiced several characters in many different Big Finish audio dramas, including the Dalek Empire series. This will be Jane’s first visit to Gallifrey One.

April 2014 North America Doctor Who DVD Release

2013 saw the return of almost two complete, previously thought lost forever, Doctor Who stories: The Enemy of the World and The Web of Fear.

While The Enemy of the World, the complete story, has seen release on DVD already (except in the United States as yet – sorry American friends!), The Web of Fear has finally had its North American DVD release date announced as April 22, 2014. The iTunes release of The Web of Fear, the second story to feature the Yeti and the recently-returned Great Intelligence, of course had a reconstruction for its missing Episode 3; it seems the DVD release will have the reconstruction again despite other recent Classic Doctor Who releases having some episodes animated.

In fact, like The Enemy of the World, no extras are likely be included with the DVD release of The Web of Fear, though Warner has yet to formally announce that information. No final artwork is yet available, though it will be based on the above design by Tea-Lady Design.

It’s the beginning of the next 400 episodes of Radio Free Skaro, and what better way to start off this new era than with talk of Star Wars, weather in Florida, hockey, Tim Hortons and other irrelevant meanderings! The Three Who Rule eventually focused their energies and relayed what little Doctor Who news eked out this week, including such gems as new guests for Gallifrey 2014 (and the lineup for our own live show on Friday, February 14th), the return of friend of the show Phil Ford to Doctor Who, and other assorted newsy morsels.

All mere preamble to a commentary recorded this summer at Westercon for “Silver Nemesis”. We’re not saying our commentary is good, but rest assured it is better than the story itself, so have a listen to it, won’t you?

Gallifrey One 2014 Guest Update

Still more guests have been announced for the upcoming Gallifrey One convention next month!

Terrance Dicks is an elder statesman of Doctor Who and one of the most prolific figures of the classic series, as a writer on The War Games, The Seeds of Death, Robot, The Brain of Morbius, Horror of Fang Rock and State of Decay, as well as script editor for the series during Barry Letts reign. Dicks was also the author of countless Target novelizations and worked on both Space 1999 and a series he co-created called Moonbase 3.

Sonita Henry recently played Colonel Meme in Time of the Doctor, but she’s previously been seen in genre efforts such as Star Trek (2009) and The Fifth Element, as well as voicing the character of Elle Langford in the Dead Space 3 video game.

Gareth Thomas is well known to British genre fans as Roj Blake, the leader of the rebels piloting the Liberator and battling the villainous Federation in the 1970s classic Blake’s 7. Edwards has also appeared in Torchwood, as well as acting opposite Paul McGann’s Doctor for Big Finish Productions in “Storm Warning” and as Kalendorf in their “Dalek Empire” series.

Derek Ritchie has been working behind the scenes at BBC Wales since 2011, script editing Series 2 and 3 of Wizards vs Aliens, and he is currently enjoying his new position as script editor on Series 8 of Doctor Who which will begin production in January. This will be Derek’s first appearance at Gallifrey One.

From its origins on a humble Skype connection in 2006 to the quasi-shabby status it endures today, Radio Free Skaro has tried to entertain, inform and educate its listeners about the wonderful world of Doctor Who. And in this, its 400th episode, it may have finally succeeded. Joining us for a retrospective roundtable on the Matt Smith era were Chris and Laura Mead of the Oodcast, Luke Harrison of TMDWP, Kyle Anderson of the Doctor Who: The Writer’s Room (and Nerdist fame) and Chip, the Two Minute Time Lord. What did these luminaries, and to a much lesser extent, Steven, Warren, and Chris think of Matt Smith’s run as the Doctor? You’ll just have to listen to find out. The Fall of the Eleventh is at last upon us as Matt Smith took his final bow in the 2013 Doctor Who Christmas Special, “The Time of the Doctor”. Crammed with all sorts of the Doctor’s past enemies and a number of other surprises, the episode was topped off with a momentous performance from the outgoing Matt Smith. But what do the Three Who Rule think of this one? Did it pack enough emotional wallop after the spectacle that was the 50th anniversary? Did Matt Smith go out in a blaze of glory like Christopher Eccleston, or did he limp to the finish line like some (well, we) think David Tennant’s Doctor did? Listen and find out. Oh, and Peter Capaldi is the Doctor now. We think this is a good thing, and it will make the wait for Capaldi’s first proper outing as the Twelfth Doctor a very long one indeed…

Despite the obvious dangers of the Blinovich Limitation Effect, the Three Who Rule came together in Edmonton for a pre-Xmas, pre-“The Time Of The Doctor” powwow. Besides many and various clips, rumours and idle speculatings about the upcoming Christmas special, the big news was the announcement that Rose Tyler herself, Billie Piper, will be a guest at Gallifrey One, mere weeks away! Other morsels of information also teased the jingle-belled minds of the RFS crew, including the tempest in a teacup that was the Missing Believed Wiped event at the BFI on December 21, topped off by a final set of interviews from Chicago TARDIS with volcano enthusiast Tracey Childs (from “The Fires of Pompeii”) and notable Davros impresario Terry Molloy. And if lava and genocidal geniuses doesn’t capture the holiday spirit, what does? Nothing, that’s what.

As Matt Smith’s time in Doctor Who approaches its end, the BBC is starting to ramp up promotion of Smith’s finale episode, “The Time of the Doctor”, with a new trailer and a series of very intriguing promo pics. These topics and more form some key discussion points for the Three Who Rule this week, but no stats this week in honour of Warren’s birthday celebrations! (Little does he know that there are no stats to discuss this week, anyway). However, the feature items in this week’s episode are two interviews from Chicago TARDIS. Dan Hall drops by again to give an update on the final two Pup Ltd related DVDs coming up in 2014, “The Moonbase” and “The Underwater Menace”, and the lovely Nina Toussaint-White (Mels from “Let’s Kill Hitler”) speaks to Steven in an interview recorded live on stage.
