New Trailer For “The Waters of Mars”!

Whilst recording the epic length Radio Free Skaro #151, this little nugget floated down the interwebs:

Tennant, Barrowman, and RTD at SDCC

For those who wish they were at San Diego Comic-Con right now but aren’t, here’s David Tennant, John Barrowman, and Russell T Davies introducing the screenings of both Torchwood: Children of Earth, Day Five and Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead.:

New Doctor Who DVDs for North America in November

Steve Manfred (of the excellent Doctor Who DVD FAQ site) is reporting that both The War Games and the Black Guardian Trilogy (composed of Mawdryn Undead, Terminus, and Enlightenment) will be coming to the North American (Region 1) DVD market on Tuesday, November 3. No prices have been announced, nor covers unveiled, for either set, but expect each DVD set to be within the $30-$40 range, price wise, and expect both covers to be of questionable artistic taste. (UPDATE – the covers have now been released, and they actually don’t look that bad.)

The War Games is a 3-disc set that was released in the UK (Region 2) on July 6 to great acclaim. The Black Guardian Trilogy is a 4-disc set which not only includes the three stories from Season 20 that make up the trilogy, but a new, widescreen edit of Enlightenment with enhanced visual effects. This set will be released in the UK in August.

Party like it’s 1963

Among the other announcements today, it has also been revealed the TARDIS will be getting a rather retro feel. As has previously been discussed on Radio Free Skaro, the press have leaked rumours that the TARDIS would have a white, retro feel inside but little or nothing had previously been mentioned about the exterior. Set reports from today’s filming quite clearly show changes to the exterior of our beloved blue box, such as the return of the St. John’s Ambulance logo that adorned the door in William Hartnell’s era.

Pond (insert joke here)

In addition to wee l’il Matty’s costume being revealed today, we’ve also learned Karen Gillan’s character’s name shall be Amy… POND?! As discussed on Radio Free Skaro #150 yesterday, The Mirror seems to have accurately reported the Amy part but frankly the Pond is a bit out of left field to most people so far. Let the jokes like “pond scum” begin!

Professor Doctor

The BBC has this morning revealed the costume for Matt Smith’s Doctor, a rather professorial affair complete with tweed, a bow tie… and boots. Needless to say, the most important characteristic of Smith’s – or any – Doctor, the hair, shall seemingly be left alone to maintain the sentience we’ve all come to expect from our cute widdwe 12-year old Time Lord.

Karen Gillan and Matt Smith prepare to do some filming on the new series of Doctor Who.

Radio Free Skaro #150 – Sasquatchicentennial

rfs150
An exciting landmark in RFS history, as the Three Who Rule celebrate their Sasquatchicentennial, otherwise known as the 150th episode of their half-crazed (yet still consistently jaunty) blatherings. And what better way to mark the occasion than “The Parting of the Ways,” Eccleston’s final episode as the good Doctor and one of the many highlights of the 2005 return of the series. News, digressions and a visit from one of the Internet’s most pervasive memes round out this most 150-th of episodes. Play him off, keyboard cat!

Radio Free Skaro Wednesday Cutaway – The Ballad of Jack and Ianto

Radio Free Skaro Wednesday Cutaway – Click here to listen

In a noteworthy Wednesday cutaway, Radio Free Skaro enlisted the help of some of our LGBT listeners to hold a discussion on the recent uproar about Torchwood: Children of Earth (about which there will be spoilers!) and the perceived homophobia many in the fandom community say it presented. Many thanks go to our own Katrina who leads the panel with listeners Erik and Nat in delivering an hour of informed discussion about this fandom reaction.

Announcing…Skaro Shop!

www.zazzle.com/radiofreeskaro

In honour of our impending 150th episode of Doctor Who: Radio Free Skaro (as well as the looming third anniversary of this humble podcast), we are celebrating the occasion on two fronts :

1) The ever so slight redesign of the Radio Free Skaro logo and website, and (most excitedly),
2) The launch of our official Radio Free Skaro Merchandise page, Skaro Shop (www.zazzle.com/radiofreeskaro)!

Covering the announcements in reverse order, Skaro Shop has a wide variety of RFS-related merchandise including t-shirts, mugs, hats, buttons, and stickers featuring our new Radio Free Skaro logo, as well as shirts and such featuring various catchphrases that we’ve trotted out during those moments of awkward silence over the years. Want a “MADOC!” shirt? You can now get one! Eager to strike fear in your friends by wearing a shirt featuring the (fictitious) beast PEDANTOR!? Well, it can now be yours! Be the first person on your street to own an official Radio Free Skaro ringer-T and be the envy of all your friends!

The link to our shop can be found on the right-hand side of this website. There are Canadian, US, and UK versions of the store. Sizes and colours vary for the many shirts and such that we offer, and our affiliate Zazzle accepts PayPal and all major credit cards. Thanks, as always, for your support, and we think you will all find something to your liking at our new store.

Lastly, with the unveiling of the updated logo, this website has undergone a necessary tweak as well. All extraneous content can be found along the right-hand side of the page, including links to our aforementioned online store, our Twitter feed and Benjamin Elliott’s excellent “This Week in Doctor Who”. Also, don’t forget to download the latest version of the Radio Free Skaro wallpapers, available for your desktop and/or mobile phone! There’s nothing necessarily new, content-wise, but we think it’s a sleeker, cleaner-looking site that we hope you will enjoy!

Thanks for visiting our site and listening to our podcasts. We hope you enjoy the next 150 episodes as much as you’ve (hopefully) enjoyed the first 150.
