Doctor Who Magazine 413 has published a reader poll ranking Doctor Who episodes. The last time this was done was in 1998, well before the series made its triumphant return to our screens. Back then, the Tom Baker classic Genesis of the Daleks took the top spot… but what has 11 years done to public opinion?
Over a decade later, and over 4 new series of the revamped show, Classic Who still reigns as king (though dominates the low end, too) with Peter Davison’s swan song Caves of Androzani taking top prize. After all, who can blame the fans for voting it the best ever? Robert Holmes. Graeme Harper. Sharaz Jek. Stotzie. Morgus. The Magma Beast. Peri’s cleavage overshadowing the regeneration sequence. What’s not to love about it?
The Top 10 and Bottom 10 are as follow:
001. The Caves of Androzani
002. Blink
003. Genesis of the Daleks
004. The Talons of Weng-Chiang
005. The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances
006. Human Nature / The Family of Blood
007. Pyramids of Mars
008. City of Death
009. The Robots of Death
010. Bad Wolf / The Parting of the Ways
191. The Dominators
192. Fear Her
193. Paradise Towers
194. The Underwater Menace
195. The Space Pirates
196. Time-Flight
197. Underworld
198. Time and the Rani
199. Timelash
200. The Twin Dilemma]]>

As you can probably tell, radiofreeskaro.com has undergone a bit of an upgrade. We think the site looks bolder and more colourful, with a few more bells and whistles to amuse and delight you. Key among the changes is a jukebox where you can listen to all your favourite RFS episodes at the click of a button.
Also, there are some new links that will take you to SPACE Channel’s Doctor Who page, as well as the main site for Gallifrey 21, the Doctor Who convention to end all conventions (until Gallifrey 22 in 2011).
Take a look around, and we hope you enjoy the new digs.]]>
Specifically at radiofreeskaro.com, our new home for jaunty nonsense involving the good Doctor. Head on over, crack open a malted beverage of some kind, and don’t let Pedantor out, he hates the neighbourhood kids and is known to bite.
In an age of always-on interconnectivity, it’s very difficult to be surprised. It’s even more difficult when a part of you wants to ruin the surprise. Such is the double-edged nature of the spoiler.
The Whooverville Doctor Who convention that took place in September at Derby featured a notable podcasting panel featuring representatives from no less than eight (8) different Doctor Who podcasts. Eager to elbow their way into a party to which they were never invited, Radio Free Skaro is proud to present this panel to you for your listening enjoyment. Very big thanks to Adam Purcell of Staggering Stories for providing the audio. Oh, and happy 100th episode, Tin Dog! |

The classic series commentary makes a not-so-triumphant return to the Radio Free Skaro fold as we merge the Miniscope with the old time-filling standby. With Johnny Byrne as our subject we plod through the week’s weak news with discussion of lowlights such as Warriors of the Deep and our commentary of the first half of Arc of Infinity. There should have been another way, indeed! (NOTE: This is the fixed version of this episode.) |

If there’s one issue that divides fans of the Doctor, it’s the thorny question of romance. Back in the old days of Classic Who, this debate was neatly avoided by alternately projecting the Doctor as an older authority figure or simply having him ignore the base urges in favour of spouting technobabble and, oh yes, battling monsters. And this suited most fans just fine.
Where are [my favorite] monsters in Doctor Who? With the re-emergence of Doctor Who into the minds of fans the world over in 2005, the initial thrill of discovering we’d soon be experiencing new adventures with a new Doctor in a new TARDIS was almost overpowering. But once we fans recovered, a new question emerged; “When will ‘Monster X’ be back?”

SPACE (www.spacecast.com), the home of Doctor Who and Torchwood in Canada, announced today that Radio Free Skaro will be blogging for the nation’s sci-fi channel, by way of our own Warren Frey! Warren will naturally be blogging about all things Doctor Who leading up to the Canadian premiere of the last three David Tennant gap year specials on SPACE, as well as the upcoming series featuring Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor in Spring 2010.

With news sorely lacking, the Three Who Rule were momentarily relieved to hide in the welcome shelter of a commentary, in this case the third and fourth instalments of “Arc of Infinity”, a maudlin yarn notable more for IKEA furniture infesting Gallifrey than for an interesting story. But their welcome was short lived, as Cracklor once again besieged Warren and his computer more or less opted for suicide….much like Omega, as his Rice Krispie wounds boiled into nothingness. Poignancy ahead, dear listeners. Sheer poignancy.
