Help Neil Perryman Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro

Neil Perryman and Palma Carter

On June 10, 2009, Radio Free Skaro’s good friend Neil Perryman (of Tachyon TV fame), along with Palma Carter, will attempt to climb the highest free-standing mountain in the world – Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. At a height of 19,340 feet or 5,900 metres (that’s almost six kilometres!), Mt Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest volcano in the world.

The trek will take Neil and Palma through the rainforests of Tanzania and up the Lemosho route of the mountain over 11 gruelling days and nights, ascending almost six kilometres and walking over 90 kilometres in total. In addition to covering all of their expedition costs themselves, Neil and Palma will be aiming to raise over £3000 in donations for UNICEF, and they are asking for help to meet this ambitious target.

Please join us here at radiofreeskaro.com in donating to this worthy cause. Just click on the “justgiving” button at the top of the right hand column on our home page. Donating through justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor them: UNICEF UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Follow Neil and Palma’s adventure via their blog

UPDATE: Neil has also started to set up a Doctor Who charity auction to help with his quest. Read about it here!

Thanks,

Radio Free Skaro

Radio Free Skaro #128 – In the Shadow of the Cyber-King

In a surprising turn of events, this week’s episode was chock full of news…an unwelcome development with a “The Next Doctor” commentary bearing down on the Three Who Rule like a Cyber-King hell-bent on justifying its own lack of continuity. Being the brave souls they are, your gallant hosts soldiered on and brought not only the most current of current events in all of Who-dom, but also a sterling commentary on David Morrissey’s debut as the Next Doctor. Oh yes, and David Tennant made some sort of appearance as well.

Radio Free Skaro interviews Steve Roberts

In our ongoing Wednesday special series featuring interviews and such from Gallifrey ’09 in February (just to see how long we can milk it), we bring you an interview with Doctor Who Restoration Team impresario Steve Roberts, wherein he discusses past and future projects regarding the classic Who DVD series.

Return of the Bandrils to air at Christmas 2009

The second Doctor Who gap year special, Russell T. Davies’ and Phil Ford’s “Return of the Bandrils” has been confirmed to have a Christmas 2009 transmission date. Gareth Roberts, writer of The Shakespeare Code, The Unicorn and the Wasp and co-writer of Planet of the Dead, has said in the new DWM we’ll have a heck of a wait after the first gap year special airs at Easter.

So far only Den of Geek has picked up the story and run with it, so maybe that’s a sign it’s all a bald-faced lie and we can go about our normal business.

On the upside, Roberts notes his New Adventures novel The Highest Science influenced Planet of the Dead. I look forward to that.

Radio Free Skaro #127 – The Rise of Rubbishor

Though the news was paltry (other than some serious SPOILERS for one of the upcoming specials near the 3/4 mark of the show), the Three Who Rule were able to bring their customary wit and verve to this week’s proceedings, and even managed to create Rubbishor, a new crusader destined to unseat the cruel and debased rule of Pedantor. Watch this space for more exciting details on this clash of entirely fictional titans! Or…just listen to the podcast.

More Doctor Who DVDs Announced for North America in July

Hot on the heels of the details of the May Doctor Who DVD releases in North America (click here for that story) comes word that two more releases will be coming our way on July 7 – the The Rescue/The Romans mini-boxed set (released last week in the UK), as well as 1985’s Attack of the Cybermen(which will hit the shelves in the UK in March). Radio Free Skaro – Gallifrey ’09 Podcast Panel

At Gallifrey ’09, three of the most preeminent Doctor Who podcasts around – Podshock, Tachyon TV, and Radio Free Skaro – converged for a tell all panel entitled “So You Want To Podcast Doctor Who?”, ready to dispense vital information to a room full of eager fans wanting to venture into the cutthroat world of podcasting.

With three panelists per podcast, the panel was chock full of on-air talent; it looked like the Yalta Conference of podcasting. Of course, occuring at 11:00 AM on a Saturday morning, the energy in the room was far from palpable. And the party only really began once Damon from Tachyon TV started dispensing beer to all who wanted one (some of the panelists had, at that point, barely stopped drinking since the previous afternoon). But the panel’s main goal was achieved – there actually more people in the audience than on the panel.

Pamela Anderson’s Big Finish Audition

…and doesn’t that headline just sound rude? Apparently, while we at Radio Free Skaro were busy trying to score an interview with Sixth Doctor actor Colin Baker when we were all there for Gallifrey ’09, Baker was busy, unknowingly, chatting up Pamela Anderson on a street corner near a chocolate shop. Could Anderson now be in line for a part in an upcoming Big Finish audio? We here at RFS are texting a message to the Big Finish big wigs as you read this…
