After taking the better part of September off to either move to, visit, or stay away from other continents, the Three Who Rule reconvened for their first regularly recorded episode of Radio Free Skaro since the hazy days of summer. January North America Doctor Who DVDs

The first North American DVD release of 2011 will take place on Tuesday, January 11 when the Tom Baker story Meglos and the Season 6 opener, The Dominators, will hit the shelves. It was announced earlier this month that Meglos will be the first DVD that will be see a simultaneous release overseas on the same day (or near enough) as it does in the UK. The Dominators was released in the UK in July, and is the first Patrick Troughton story to be released since the epic 3-disc set for The War Games came out in 2009.

In a not-so-unprecedented move, Steven and Chris welcome back the Two-minute Time Lord himself, Chip, to take a look at what is thought by many to be the weak point of Series 5 — Victory of the Daleks. The Series 5 commentary series examines where the episode went right and where it went wrong, and of course there can never be enough discussion about the Power Rangers-esque Daleks. Will opinions change for the better? Will they change for the worse? Will Churchill ever put out that blasted cigar when in the bunker? Only some of those questions will be answered in this week’s Radio Free Skaro!

Doctor Who DVD Releases To Be Synchronized

<![CDATA[BBC America has announced that classic Doctor Who DVD releases, beginning with Meglos in 2011, will be synchronized across all major regions. Whereas in the past months would pass between a UK and North American or Australian/New Zealand release, releases will now come in the same week beginning next year. This will certainly make DVD buyers outside the UK very happy, including those of us at Radio Free Skaro who have, at times, pined for releases available in the UK but not yet available in North America. We very much welcome the change, even if the accelerated Region 1 release schedule means 2011 will be a pricey year for DVDs.]]>

Waters of Mars Wins Hugo Award

<![CDATA[Congratulations to Russell T Davies and friend of the show Phil Ford on their Best Dramatic Presentation – Short Form Hugo award for The Waters of Mars, presented earlier today at Aussiecon 4 in Melbourne. This Hugo is the fourth win for Doctor Who since its revamp in 2005 and the first for any writer other than Steven Moffat. The Waters of Mars was, at least for the Radio Free Skaro gang, the high point of the 2009 Gap Year and we couldn’t be happier it was recognized for its brilliance.]]>
