Radio Free Skaro #295 – Radio Free Skaro and The World of Tomorrow
< Gallifrey Live Show! For only the second time (and the first in the main ballroom), the Three Who Rule entertained the huddled Earth masses in attendance at the Gallifrey One convention on Los Angeles with ribaldry, shenanigans and interviews with Who luminaries such as Camille Coduri, Simon Fisher-Becker, Dalek operator Barnaby Edwards, director Toby Haynes and ingenue Gary Russell, who we predict will go onto great things. Also, Chip gives a sterling and much lauded onstage presentation of his Two-Minute Time Lord podcast that is sure to thrill and inspire.

< The annual meet up of Doctor Who podcasters at Gallifrey One forms the backbone of this, the first of Radio Free Skaro’s episodes covering the convention. Among our friends joining us is Simon Harries, late of Tachyon TV and attending his first Gally since 2010, and Josh Zimon, long time listener and now first time guest representing, along with Eric Escamilla, the Mostly Harmless Cutaway podcast. Topics discussed were the differences in popularity of Doctor Who in North America and in the UK, how Gallifrey One stands out among the many other Doctor Who conventions in the USA and in the United Kingdom, and the usual tales of ribaldry that occurs at such events and pushes the PG-13 boundaries that this podcast tries desperately to somewhat casually enforce. Radio Free Skaro #293 – Occupy Gallifrey
< GALLY! It’s the most wonderful time of the year once again, a glorious three-days-to-a-week where thousands of Doctor Who fans descend on the LAX Marriott in Los Angeles and bathe in glorious nerdery (and also sip a snifter of port on occasion.)
Our annual tradition is to run through the convention schedule before we arrive, glossing over panels that we know nothing about (cosplay, crafts, Buffy fandom and Gay Agendas) and lionizing panels we think are cool (Steve Roberts, stuff we’re moderating, podcasting chinwags, and Steve Roberts.) While we strive to inform and entertain, Gally guests are well advised to check out both the website at http://www.gallifreyone.com and read their program guide upon arrival, which will soon become your Holy Text as you navigate past Tiki Daleks and Femmy Sixes. As always, the Three Who Rule will be releasing daily podcasts and interviewing many of the luminaries of new and Classic Who, but we’ll also be opening the convention with our live show, “Radio Free Skaro and the World of Tomorrow” on Friday, February 17th. at 12:00 p.m. If you’re going to be at #gally, we’d love for you to attend our live show for 90 minutes of fun and frivolity with Camille Coduri, Toby Haynes, Barnaby Edwards, Gary Russell and Simon Fisher-Becker. Radio Free Skaro at Gallifrey One’s Network 23
The 2012 edition of Gallifrey One, the largest (and in our opinion best) fan-run Doctor Who convention in the world, is almost upon us. Gallifrey One’s Network 23 takes place from February 17-19 at the LAX Marriott Hotel in Los Angeles, CA, and Radio Free Skaro will be there!
This will be Radio Free Skaro’s fourth year covering Gallifrey One, however this year will be extra special for us. As the official Gallifrey One podcast, we will be opening the convention in the main ballroom on Friday, February 17 at 12:00pm. Entitled Radio Free Skaro and The World of Tomorrow, we will bring you live, on-stage interviews with Camille Coduri, Barnaby Edwards, Toby Haynes, Simon-Fisher Becker, and Gary Russell; there will also be a special live version of Two-minute Time Lord with Chip Sudderth… but that’s not all!
As always, we will be bringing you daily podcasts for five days starting on Thursday, February 16. Featuring interviews with many of the convention guests, as well as conversations with friends and attendees alike, we hope to bring the full Gallifrey One experience to those who can’t attend themselves. And of course, those who are in attendance will be able to relive the wonderful time they had at Gally.

May 2012 North America Doctor Who DVD Releases

| Hot off the announcement of two new DVD releases for April, we’ll be getting three more classic Doctor Who DVD releases in North America on May 8.
An underrated gem, in our opinion, 1979’s Nightmare of Eden was one of the more tumultuous productions in Doctor Who’s long history, an aspect of which will no doubt be covered in the extensive extras that were cleared by the BBFC just last week. Two Sylvester McCoy stories that will form The Ace Box in the UK will be released separately here. The 1987 story Dragonfire, featuring Sophie Aldred’s debut as Ace, and The Happiness Patrol from 1988, featuring one of the more memorable Who villains, The Kandyman, will also hit the shelves. Radio Free Skaro #291 – That Which Survives
< A simple commentary about “Closing Time,” which gave the Three Who Rule ample time to discuss the great chemistry between Matt Smith and guest star James Corden, instead devolved into a simply rancid discussion on babies and their propensity to poop on this episode of Radio Free Skaro. Our choice of topic says more about us than it does about the episode at hand, which was a delightful romp penned by Gareth Roberts and not at all a treatise on infants and their digestive habits. But leaving the puerile giggling aside for the moment, weighty matters as fictitious awards, possibly crappy video games and the life and quick death of Doctor Who Insider were also covered. All this and backhanded compliments aimed at Eric Roberts, and you’ve got yourself approximately an hour of a podcast of some sort! |
