It's nerdlesque insanity at Video Free Skaro this week, with a peek at Geeks After Dark, the raucous monthly event featuring nerds, booze, burlesque and costumes. This month's theme was Star Wars, with many a sexy Ewok and Hawaiian shirt clad Boba Fett in attendance.
We interviewed Fairlith Harvey, the organizer of Geeks After Dark, as well as her co-conspirator Cam Russell.
But that's not all, we've also got news from Comic-Con! Truly, it is a great time to be a nerd.
If you like the shirt Warren is wearing, go to damask.ca, and if you’d like to check out Geeks After Dark yourself, head to their Facebook page..]]>

| The first (and potentially only) Doctor Who DVD release for October in North America has been announced, and it is a doozy.
The Ambassadors of Death, the only remaining Season 7 story yet to be released, will hit the streets on October 2. Long championed by we here at Radio Free Skaro, The Ambassadors of Death has had to go through a tumultuous restoration process. Initially released on VHS in 2002, only episodes 1 and 5 were in colour, while the other five episodes were a combination of colour and black and white. This DVD release, which was initially slated to come out last year alongside The Sun Makers, will feature all seven episodes in full colour after literally years of restoration work has been applied to it. A full list of features has yet to be announced, but a commentary track was recorded in 2009 featuring Terrance Dicks, director Michael Ferguson, stunt arranger Derek Ware, and three actors who have sadly passed on since the recording: Caroline John, Nicholas Courtney, and Peter Halliday. Stay tuned to Radio Free Skaro for further details about the rest of the special features. The Ambassadors of Death is a double disc release with an SRP of $34.98. More details about this release can be found at TVShowsOnDVD.com. Click the cover art for larger versions. |

A bumper crop of news highlights this week’s episode of RFS as the ramp-up to the new series of Doctor Who continues. San Diego Comic-Con talk, BFI premieres, and several new toys that will be filling the toy boxes and bookcases of child and middle-aged nerd alike. And to top it off, we present our commentary of The War Machines, the 1966 serial that introduced us to the character of “Doctor Who” and a rather far fetched notion of computers connecting to each other across the world into some sort of an international network. There’s nothing quite so dated as our vision of the future, is there? |

Christopher Hamilton Bidmead is a polarizing figure in Doctor Who fandom, with some hating his tenure as script editor and writer whilst others loved the shift he oversaw from clownish antics to more science-based storytelling. Where do the Three Who Rule stand on this vitally important matter? Why does Steven love Castrovalva? What is the Watcher, really? Why does Bidmead hate the TARDIS so much (or does he)? The answer, dear friends, is SCIENCE! |

| The first DVD release for September has been announced for North America, to wit the last complete William Hartnell serial yet to be made available on shiny disc.
Planet of Giants, which led off Season 2 in 1964, was originally a four-part story before the decision was made to edit together the final two installments in order to make the action flow a little better. An audio reconstruction of the original fourth episode, entitled “The Urge to Live”, will be presented on the DVD as an extra featuring the vocal talents of William Russell and Carole Ann Ford. The DVD comes out on September 11. Update: As expected, Warner has now announced the release of the 2-disc Vengeance on Varos Special Edition for release on the same day. The Revisitations version of Vengeance on Varos is the first such title to be released in the UK outside of a box set, and we expect all further Revisitations titles (such as Inferno and Ark in Space) to be released separately in the UK as they always have been in North America. Planet of Giants is a single disc release with an SRP of $24.98 while Vengeance on Varos will carry a $34.98 SRP. More details about these releases, including extras, can be found at TVShowsOnDVD.com. Click the cover art for larger versions. |
