< As we turn the corner into October in this 50th anniversary year of Doctor Who, the Three Who Rule reach the halfway point in their odyssey of covering the eras of each producer of the classic series in the Miniscope. This week, the Barry Letts epoch is the focus, a five year stretch of classic episodes that vaulted Doctor Who from a Saturday tea-time tradition to a British television institution. A lifelong fan of the era, Gary Russell, who has been involved with the show in many ways since the early 1980s, joins us to discuss the many strengths of Letts’s time on the show. Steven, Warren, and Chris also reunite to discuss the news of the week, including details of a worldwide simulcast of The Day of the Doctor, which were announced earlier this week. Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Episode in Global Broadcast and Cinema Extravaganza

BBC show will be enjoyed by millions across six continents in BBC Worldwide global simulcast and cinema extravaganza
LONDON: October 1st 2013
BBC Worldwide today announces that the special 50th Anniversary episode of Doctor Who, the world’s longest running and most successful sci-fi series will, for the first time ever, be broadcast simultaneously to millions of viewers worldwide in a global simulcast on 23rd November 2013.
From Canada to Colombia, Brazil to Botswana and Myanmar to Mexico, fans in at least 75 countries spanning six continents will be able to enjoy the episode in 2D and 3D* at the same time as the UK broadcast, with more countries expected to be confirmed within the next month. The US, Australia and Canada have also signed up for the simulcast which will be shown in numerous countries across Europe, Latin America and Africa. In addition to Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman, the one-off special, entitled The Day of the Doctor stars former Time Lord David Tennant as well as Billie Piper, and John Hurt.
On top of the worldwide TV broadcast, hundreds of cinemas in the UK and across the world also plan to screen the hotly anticipated special episode simultaneously in full 3D, giving fans the opportunity to make an event of the occasion and be part of a truly global celebration for the iconic British drama series. Details about tickets for the anniversary screening will be announced in due course.

Gallifrey One 2014 Guest Update

| Some more guests have been added to the already impressive bill at the upcoming Gallifrey One convention in February 2014! |
 An acting legend in the UK since the 1960s, and famous for the series 1970s series Upstairs, Downstairs, Jean Marsh has had some notable brushes with the Doctor Who world. Previously married to Jon Pertwee, Jean first appeared on Doctor Who in 1965’s “The Crusade”, then followed it up by playing short term companion Sara Kingdom in the epic “The Daleks’ Master Plan” later that year. Jean returned to Doctor Who in 1989 to portray Morgaine in “Battlefield”. This will be Jean Marsh’s first appearance at Gallifrey One. |
 Kate O’Mara played the villainous Rani in two stories – Season 22’s “The Mark of the Rani” and Sylvester McCoy’s debut “Time and the Rani” from Season 24. The plot of the latter story called on Kate to double for Bonnie Langford in disguise as Mel, and Kate now replaces Bonnie Langford at Gallifrey One as Bonnie has had to pull out of attending the con! Funny how these things work out. 2014 will be Kate’s first appearance at Gallifrey One. |
 Jacqueline King played the disappointed mother to Catherine Tate’s underachieving Donna Noble in the 2006 Christmas Special “The Runaway Bride”. Jacqueline would reprise the role in Series 4 and 2009-10’s “The End of Time”. 2014 will see the first appearance at Gallifrey One for Jacqueline. |
 Famous in recent years for appearing in a variety of Tim Burton productions including Big Fish and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and perhaps best know now as being Scotty’s alien companion Keenser in the new Star Trek films, Deep Roy played the role of Mr. Sin in the iconic 1977 serial “The Talons of Weng-Chiang”. He also appeared in the flesh as The Klute in the beloved Blake’s 7 episode “Gambit”. This will be Deep’s first appearance at Gallifrey One. |
 Friend of the show Toby Hadoke returns to Gallifrey One with a Friday night performance of his hit comedy show “My Stepson Stole My Sonic Screwdriver”. Toby first wowed Gally with his 2009 show “Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf”, and he has also been omnipresent on many classic series DVD commentaries and extra features. |
 Jamie Glover has yet to appear in the Doctor Who universe, but he will be playing William Russell in Mark Gatiss’s An Adventure in Space and Time that will be broadcast in November. Also, Jamie comes from an impressive Doctor Who acting pedigree, as both his parents Julian Glover (“The Crusade”, “City of Death”) and Isla Blair (“The King’s Demons”) have appeared on the show in the past. This will be Jamie’s first appearance at Gallifrey One. |
 Nev Fountain makes his return to Gallifrey One since the 2009 edition of the convention. Nev is well known for his work on the comedy series Dead Ringers, but he also written several Doctor Who audio plays for Big Finish, and created the popular audio series Mervyn Stone about a crime solving ex-script editor of a popular science fiction show! |
  Ellie Darcey-Alden and Joseph Darcey-Alden are real life siblings, and they played onscreen sister and brother Francesca and Digby in the 2012 Christmas special “The Snowmen”. This will be the Darcey-Aldens’ first appearance at Gallifrey One. |

< As most of you might be aware, Doctor Who is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2013, and the Three Who Rule are also doing their part to mark the occasion by celebrating and analyzing the era of each producer who helmed the show from 1963 through until the Fox TV movie in 1996. First up, the first producer – the original, you might say – Verity Lambert, who set in stone much of what we know and love about Doctor Who with help from her story editors David Whitaker and Dennis Spooner. And joining us for this segment is Doctor Who writer Jonny Morris to provide insight and opinion on the first two years in the programme’s history. December 2013 North America Doctor Who DVD Releases

| The Doctors Revisited series on BBC America has been a great way to introduce NuWho viewers to the different characterizations of The Doctor as well as giving them a glimpse into the Classic Series; the DVD releases of these episodes conclude on December 3 when the third volume hits store shelves.
Along with the documentaries highlighting each of the Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh Doctors, the set will include the new series episodes Bad Wolf and The Parting of the Ways for Eccleston’s Doctor, The Stolen Earth and Journey’s End for Tennant’s Doctor and lastly The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon for soon-to-be-departed Matt Smith’s Doctor. A week later, on December 10, folks on this side of the Atlantic can also lay their hands on the upcoming 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of the Doctor. The Blu-Ray version will be an all-encompassing Blu-Ray/DVD/3D Blu-Ray release, making it a pretty cool value if you can actually view it in 3D. Doctor Who Explained, previously referenced on Radio Free Skaro, will be included as a bonus; other extras have yet to be announced, though scuttlebutt says An Adventure in Time and Space may be amongst those final extras. MSRP for the 3-disc The Doctors Revisited: 9-11 will be $39.98; The Day of the Doctor will have an MSRP of $24.98 for the DVD release and $29.98 for the Blu-Ray release.
