Second Series Fnarg Trailer

<![CDATA[Today the BBC aired a new trailer for the first Matt Smith series, presented here in shameful 2D while UK cinemas will soon get a 3D version which will no doubt be squeeful eye candy. The best part of the trailer comes at the end when it's noted Series Fnarg will have an Easter release. This means April 3, Easter Saturday, in all likelihood. Hooray!

The Three Who Rule created their own news this week by dropping a small bombshell into the world of Doctor Who fandom by being the first to reveal official BBC details of the upcoming Series Fnarg. Once that was coyly dealt with, and after a dark, sinister, and negative experience watching The End of Time Part One last week, the Three Who Rule were in finer spirits for their second outing in Finale-Stan, the catchily-titled “The End of Time Part Two”. Between Chris’s endless (no really, they just wouldn’t end) gags about slash writers and the occasionally engaging spectacle onscreen, your erstwhile hosts proved to be much more affable on this leg of the excursion, and bile was replaced by hope and optimism as Matt Smith crashed onto our screens and into our coal-black, ginger-hating hearts. Series Fnarg Details Revealed in BBC Release

<![CDATA[

Radio Free Skaro has stumbled upon an official BBC release promoting the upcoming Series 1 (aka Series Fnarg) of Matt Smith’s tenure as The Doctor. Not only does the release state that the first episode, The Eleventh Hour, will be 60 minutes long, but it gives a few tantalizing details of the series to come. From the release:

A new era of Doctor Who begins in Spring 2010. This latest series of the BBC’s flagship drama programme sees Matt Smith’s debut as the new, Eleventh incarnation of the famous Time Lord alongside a new travelling companion, the enigmatic Amy Pond (Karen Gillan).

Together they explore 16th century Venice, France during the 1890s and the United Kingdom in the far future, now an entire nation floating in space.

As always, wherever the Doctor goes, his oldest enemies are never far behind – the Daleks are hatching a new master plan from the heart of war-torn London in the 1940s. But they are not the only strange creatures the Doctor and Amy must face – there are also alien vampires. humanoid reptiles, old enemies such as the Weeping Angels, a Star Whale, and a silent menace that follows Amy and the Doctor around wherever they go…

Very exciting stuff! Interesting to note that the series is also billed as “Series 5” in the release – how confusing! As always, stay tuned to http://www.radiofreeskaro.com for all your Doctor Who news leading up to Matt Smith’s debut as the Doctor in the spring.

Matthew Graham to write for Series Fnarg+1?

<![CDATA[Friend of the site Simon Brew over at Den of Geek is reporting that Matthew Graham, creator of the landmark series Life on Mars and its follow-up Ashes to Ashes, and of course best known in the Doctor Who world for writing Fear Her in the second series of NuWho, will return to the Whoniverse in Series 6/2/32. No confirmation has yet come, however if this holds true he would be joining Neil Gaiman and (maybe) Jack Thorne in writing for Matt Smith’s sophomore outing.

It had to happen sooner or later, so the Three Who Rule ripped the bandage off by recording a commentary for The End of Time Part One, that neo-classic from Christmas 2009 containing such classic Who elements as magic potions, laser hands, randy senior citizens and Smell-O-Vision. Did the episode fare better this time round after the scolding it received in Radio Free Skaro 174? You decide. Also discussed was news of Gaiman, gay men, and gained men, er, companions. Onwards!

Neil Gaiman To Still Write For Doctor Who?

<![CDATA[

The notion of Neil Gaiman writing for Doctor Who apparently isn’t dead yet. The acclaimed writer appeared at the UCLA on February 4 for a speaking engagement. During his appearance, Gaiman answered several questions from the audience, one of which was about writing for Doctor Who. Jace Lacob, writer/editor of the award-winning television website Televisionary, was in attendance, and posted this comment on Twitter after the performance:

When asked if he will ever write a Doctor Who script, Neil Gaiman (@neilhimself) nodded emphatically. Hmmm…

Gaiman had previously been rumoured to be writing a script for Matt Smith’s first series as The Doctor until he himself denied it on his own Twitter feed. While Gaiman hasn’t confirmed anything yet beyond his UCLA appearance, a Doctor Who script still appears to be a distinct possibility.

Gaiman could possibly join Skins writer Jack Thorne as a writer for the next series, as Thorne confirmed on his Twitter feed in July that he was also working on a script for Doctor Who.

UPDATE #1: Jace at Televisionary has now posted on his own blog about this. Here’s the link.
UPDATE #2: Neil Gaiman himself has confirmed the news at SFX. Here’s the link.]]>
