<![CDATA[

BBC Worldwide have released a new poster image and press blurb for the upcoming Torchwood: Miracle Day. BBC Worldwide revealed the details at the MIPTV conference taking place in Cannes, France from April 4-7. Click on the image above for a larger version, and read the press blurb below:

Torchwood: Miracle Day

Death is not an option

The Torchwood cast are joined by the stars of Independence Day and ER in an ambitious new global storyline featuring locations in Wales, the US and around the world.

When convicted child killer Oswald Danes miraculously survives his own execution, the footage holds America transfixed. At the same time, people all over the world stop dying. Day after day, the phenomenon continues. and a secret British institution named Torchwood seems to hold the answers…

CIA agents Rex Matheson and Esther Drummond investigate the only two surviving members of the team – Gwen Cooper, who has retreated to a remote Welsh hideaway with her husband and new baby, and the mysterious, brilliant Captain Jack Harkness. But they soon find themselves on the same side, fighting the greatest threat to humanity ever known – humanity itself.

For Earth is filling up, fast. Resources are running out. and as history has shown, bad things happen when good people get desperate.

Torchwood: Miracle Day is a co-production from BBC Cymru Wales, BBC Worldwide, and Starz Entertainment, and will premiere in the US on Friday, July 8.

UPDATE! Now there’s our first pic from the show, that of (L to R) John Barrowman, Alexa Havins, Mekhi Phifer, and Eve Myles in a car (this would appear to be from Episode 3):

UK Doctor Who Series 6 Premiere Date

<![CDATA[In a stunning move that surprised absolutely nobody, it has finally, formally been announced that Doctor Who will have an April 23 UK start date for the next series. Previously the BBC only publicly stated the series would begin at Easter; Doctor Who Magazine issue 433 has now said the series will begin April 23 on BBC One.

The news was of course widely expected once BBC America announced an April 23 start date, and then SPACE followed suit, but it’s nice to have the speculation entirely out of the way.

Check out the four special DWM 433 covers, featuring the announcement, here!. Note there’s what some might consider a spoiler on the cover, so you’ve been duly warned!]]>

Radio Free Skaro #248 – Click here to listen

A week after Radio Free Skaro’s thorough examination of Doctor Who’s long and storied history in Canada, the Three Who Rule take a hard left turn into the realm of Norman Kay, composer of three stories from Doctor Who’s embryonic years, as his work was the subject of talk in this week’s Miniscope. To help in the discussion (or basically lead), Radio Free Skaro’s own GetGlue guru Emily Kausilik, a noted music expert in her own right, was brought in to offer her expertise on not only Kay’s music, but how music in general was composed and used in 1960s Doctor Who. And, hey, it’s not often that you get to hear a discussion on 1960s Doctor Who music, is it?

August 2011 North America Doctor Who DVD Releases

<![CDATA[

It looks like August 9 will see the North American DVD release of the Seventh Doctor story Paradise Towers; this title doesn’t yet have a UK release date. Amongst the features on the disc are a commentary featuring writer Stephen Wyatt, sound designer Dick Mills and (oddly, perhaps, given he didn’t provide the music score on this story), Mark Ayres. Ayres may be there to offer an insight in David Snell’s unused scored for the story which is included on the disc as an extra. Whether you prefer Snell’s score to Keff McCulloch’s last minute replacement work is another matter…

SRP for the DVD will be $24.98. Check out more details at TVShowsOnDVD.com.

UPDATE: A second DVD, The Sun Makers from Season 15, will also see release on August 9. No artwork has been revealed yet, but a small list of extras has been confirmed including a commentary with Tom Baker, Louise Jameson, Michael Keating, and the late Pennant Roberts, as well as a feature on long time Doctor Who composer Dudley Simpson. The shelf price for this will also be $24.98. Check TVShowsOnDVD.com for more on this release.

UPDATE 2: Artwork for The Sun Makers is now available. TVShowsOnDVD.com has full details on extras.
