| In news that is bound to bother some while others cheer, it was announced earlier today that BBC Three has dropped Doctor Who Confidential from its programme lineup.
The news first broke via The Guardian and was later confirmed by Confidential Producer Zoe Rushton. Cancellation of Confidential was due to BBC Three budget cuts and, apparently, in order to focus on a “priority … to build on original British commissions, unique to the channel” according to a BBC Three spokesperson quoted in The Guardian’s article. Confidential had been paired with Doctor Who since the very beginning of the show’s relaunch in 2005 and provided behind-the-scenes footage and interviews to give viewers a deeper insight into what went into making the show we all love so much. The final edition of Confidential to be aired will be this weekend’s When Time Froze, after The Wedding of River Song goes out on BBC One as announced by the BBC. Meanwhile, fandom has initiated a campaign to save Confidential, via twitter, at @SaveDWC. |

The penultimate episode of Series 6 featured the return of one of the great Doctor-companion teams that never happened. Matt Smith and James Corden, so perfectly matched in 2010’s “The Lodger”, reunited to amuse and delight in Gareth Roberts’s wonderful follow-up “Closing Time”, a story about which the Three Who Rule were unanimous in their opinion. The Cybermen also returned and were promptly dispensed with, but who cares about them, really? Also discussed in this podcast: the inevitable rapid-fire stats, new toys, favourite Doctors, rampant pluggery and more. Radio Free Skaro, here to help! |

Gallifrey One has announced another guest update for the 2012 edition of the popular Doctor Who convention, headlined by Eric Roberts and John de Lancie!
Eric Roberts portrayed The Master in the 1996 Doctor Who TV movie, and joins previously announced guests Paul McGann, Daphne Ashbrook, Yee Jee Tso, and Philip Segal to form an impressive collection of the people responsible for the Fox revival effort. John de Lancie is well known for his iconic portrayal of Q in Star Trek: The Next Generation, but he was recently seen as the gruff (and frankly awesome) Agent Alan Shapiro in Torchwood: Miracle Day. Click here to read the full guest announcement on the Gallifrey One website. Gallifrey One is North America’s largest Doctor Who convention and Network 23, running February 17-19, 2012, will be dedicated to the memory of Elisabeth Sladen and Nicholas Courtney. |

The Girl Who Waited was, to varying degrees, praised by the Three Who Rule as one of the best episodes (if not THE best, according to Warren) of this season, with acclaim for the direction, the visuals, the timey-wimey-ness, and most of all for Karen Gillan’s double performance as herself and…herself.
But wait! Torchwood: Miracle Day also wrapped up its 10 episode run with rockginas, immortals, f-bombs, and Oswald Danes doing what he does best: making the blood of civilized folk curdle. Add a dollop of stats, DVD news and Matt Smith being a stylin’ mofo, and you’ve got yourself, well, a podcast! Next week…..Night Terrors! Or, more accurately, The God Complex! |
