Radio Free Skaro #478 – Click here to listen!

rfs478The news this week is sparse, so of course conspiracy theories abounded amongst the Three Who Rule involving Zimbabwe, missing episodes, cricket, and madness. But lo, there was a small morsel of news, and that was the fact that San Diego Comic Con will in fact have a Doctor Who panel (featuring Capaldi, Moffat, Minchin, Coleman and Gomez) on Thursday, so we can tell you much earlier….whatever they reveal! But let’s get down to brass tacks here, by which I mean a commentary on the Series 8 standout episode “Flatline”, with Verity’s own Liz Myles! Forward…to the second dimension!

  1. I had to pause the podcast for a moment, with the talk of upcoming Who conventions, to mention that we have a new one starting in my neck of the woods. Time Eddy is a Who con coming to Wichita, KS, October 2-4; guests include Colin Baker, Nicola Bryant, and Katy Manning. Here’s the link to the website for all the info: http://www.kansasdoctorwho.com.

  2. You’re probably already aware, but with Steven’s new found interest in cricket I thought I’d point out that Patrick Troughton’s grandson (David’s son) Jim was a professional cricketer, captaining Warwickshire and making a handful appearances for England.
He retired last season. Here he is proving he inherited the family gift for performing.

  3. Morning Gentleman,

Just listened to the news part of this cast-I love listening to you all chatting tangentially away. As a San Diegan, heading into my third Comic-Con, I thought I’d provide some deep background on how the Con works.

    1. Yep-the hotel situation sucks.
    2. They have revamped the badge/registration system in the last few years and it works seamlessly if you pick-up your badge the night before. If you get your badge day-of, you do need to wait in line. However, there are about 100 check-in stations and it goes quickly and easily.
    3. They aren’t expanding the convention center here due to some shenanigans by some local activists (on whom’s side I usually sit, but this time they messed with my con and I am not happy!). In fact, the scuttlebutt is this will be SDCC’s last year in San Diego with a rumored move to Anaheim.
    4. I got my first badge to Gallifrey this year and I have to say, I thought Comic-Con’s registration process works better (crashing the Internet this year not with standing). Essentially, you “show-up” online between 7-9am and get put randomly into a virtual line. Then, you wait until your number comes up and then buy what you want of what is available. You have absolutely NO CONTROL, so you just wait and pray. 🙂
    5. Finally, SDCC is amazing. Yes, the crowds are atrocious and difficult. But, the Con is very well managed and the energy and passion is outstanding. You all should do a panel next year-I’ll be there (fingers crossed!)

I plan on doing the overnight line drama this year for the Doctor Who panel. Let me know if you want me to give you the scoop afterwards.

Thanks for your efforts every week-love you guys!
