The start of the 2011 series of Doctor Who is almost upon us, and, for the first time, viewers in the UK, USA, and Canada can all enjoy new episodes at almost the same time. For the launch of the series, the two North American broadcasters of Doctor Who, BBC America and SPACE, will have special events occurring leading up to the broadcast of The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon. Here’s a rundown of what to expect from the BBC, BBC America, and SPACE over the next few days:
The Impossible Astronaut will air on Saturday, April 23 on BBC One and BBC One HD from 6:00-6:45pm. Following at 7:00pm on BBC Three is the premiere installment of Doctor Who Confidential. Here’s the info on DWC:
BBC America will premiere The Impossible Astronaut on Saturday, April 23 at 9pm ET/PT. Prior to that, though, starting at 5pm ET on Friday, April 22, the network will air a massive Doctor Who marathon including all the 2008-09 specials, all of Series 5, the 2010 Christmas Special “A Christmas Carol”, and one or two special programs that have aired in the past. This will culminate in the broadcast of a new program airing at 8pm ET, directly before The Impossible Astronaut:
Doctor Who Rewind is the first of two specials BBC America has created. A second special, Doctor Who in America, is slated to air the following Saturday, April 30, at 10pm ET, immediately after the broadcast of Episode 2. Here’s the skinny on that:
SPACE, Canada’s home for Doctor Who, will also celebrate the premiere of Series 6 by airing a marathon of Series 5 episodes and gap year specials starting at 8pm ET on Thursday, April 21. Doctor Who will occupy almost the entire SPACE schedule up until 8pm ET when The Impossible Astronaut debuts (yes, one hour before it airs on BBC America). During the broadcast of The Impossible Astronaut, SPACE will be hosting a live chat at www.spacecast.com, hosted by InnerSPACE hosts Ajay Fry and Teddy Wilson. |
Of course, we here at Radio Free Skaro will be reviewing each episode on our regular podcasts the Sunday after each Doctor Who episode airs, as well as providing capsule reviews on the SPACE Podcast on the following Fridays. Exciting times for Doctor Who fans everywhere! |
