Gallifrey One 2015 Guest Update – Alex Kingston

<![CDATA[

g26frontpage

A big guest announcement today for the 26th edition of the Gallifrey One convention in February!

alexkingston
Alex Kingston first appeared in Doctor Who in 2008’s “Silence in the Library”, which was actually the last story for her character River Song. Since then, River’s timey wimey life has played out in reverse (for the most part) over the course of several episodes opposite Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor, culminating in her final appearance (to date) in the 2013 episode “The Name of the Doctor”. This is Alex’s first appearance at Gallifrey One. ]]>

rfs451With the Three Who Rule firmly back in place and order restored to the galaxy, there was great rejoicing and much waffling about next to nothing, not to mention the controversial and wrong headed use of the terms “P-Cap”, “J-Co,” and “S-Claw.” in reference to the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas Special “Last Christmas”. But wait! The main feature is an interview with Mickey Smith himself, Noel Clarke, by our very own Steven recorded live on stage at Chicago TARDIS. And and and….nerd rage from Warren about the highly important matter of the 3.75 inch dolly. Blasphemy!

rfs450The annual tradition of US Thanksgiving (as we Canadians call it) brings about another yearly custom – Chicago TARDIS! This year’s edition has been quite wonderful, bringing together most of the main cast of Series 1 of the new series to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Doctor Who returning to our screens. Our own Steven had the honour of interviewing several of these notable folks onstage, and on this podcast we bring you a chat with none other than Rose Tyler herself, Billie Piper! Also, Erika and Lynne from Verity! drop by to give their thoughts on the convention. Enjoy!

rfs448And so begins the Dark Times, otherwise known as waiting a month and a bit after the end of Series 8 for the Doctor Who Christmas Special. Larson, and most importantly, devoted the bulk of the episode to your Series 8 related questions with the return of Fluid Links! Burning inquiries, inquiring questions, questionable burning and more! Next week, a Series 8 roundtable with Shaun Lyon, Felicity Brown, and Chip Sudderth!

rfs447And with that, Series 8 of Doctor Who is over! After a radical turn towards darkness and drama it all came together with “Death in Heaven,” the final episode of the series and the P-Capstone on the 12th Doctor’s inaugural year. From the machinations of Missy (AKA The Master) to the glorious fake-out of Jenna Coleman as the Doctor in the opening titles all the way to…well, there’s some Cyber-shenanigans which the Three Who Rule cover in great detail. And as a bonus, we have an Long Island Who report from The Memory Cheats and Doctor Who: Mostly Harmless Cutaway co-host (and all around fine gent) Josh Zimon!

Radio Free Skaro is going to Worldcon 2015! And you can watch live across the world!

Sasquan 2015 in Spokane, Washington is the location of the 2015 edition of Worldcon and the 2015 Hugo Awards. These awards will be something special, and they’re trying something new: a pre-show and post-show. Both will be broadcast live on UStream before and after the ceremony. The pre-and-post shows, both called The Road to the Hugos, will feature a comprehensive look at all the awards and nominees, interviews with nominees and winners, and special segments documenting the history of the Hugo Awards. The Road to the Hugos will be hosted by none other than the Three Who Rule – Steven Schapansky, Warren Frey, and Christopher Burgess!

The Hugo Awards are the premier awards in the science fiction field, recognizing the greatest books and stories, related works, film, television, podcasts, and fan works. Hugos are presented at each year’s Worldcon. Worldcon is the annual gathering of science fiction and fantasy fans, which celebrates the best works and creators in the speculative fiction field and culture, hundreds of authors, editors, publishers, artists, scientists, game designers, and other creators and intellectual leaders will participate in the convention program. It takes place August 19-23, 2015 at the Spokane Convention Center, with the Hugo Awards ceremony taking place at the INB Performing Arts Center on Sunday, August 23.

The Hugo Awards ceremony itself will be live-streamed as well. The co-MCs for the 2015 Hugo Awards Ceremony are David Gerrold and Tananarive Due!

rfs446The penultimate episode of Series 8 is upon us, with Cybermen, the afterlife, and Missy, who is revealed as….well, you should certainly watch “Dark Water” (penned by Steven Moffat and directed by Rachel Talalay) before listening to the Three Who Rule expound upon the contents therein, or risk a mega-spoiler of cataclysmic magnitude. Have you watched? Good. Then enjoy our banter on the excellent direction, subtle performances, and the sometimes….excited reaction of certain segments of fandom when a beloved character takes a a sharp right turn into a different form. Next week, the finale, “Death in Heaven”, and news from Long Island Who!

Radio Free Skaro #445 – Can’t See The Forest For The Trees

Radio Free Skaro #445 – Click here to listen!

rfs445“In the Forest Of The Night” already looks to be one of the most polarizing episodes of Series 8, and there’s no shortage of opinion on this week’s Radio Free Skaro to go around. Along with Steven and Warren, Nerdist wordsmith Kyle Anderson joined in (pinch-hitting for an unavailable Chris) to take a look at a story about…well, trees. Warren also interviewed Rachel Talalay, the director of both “Dark Water” and “Death in Heaven”, the penultimate and final episodes of the series, and her thoughts on Doctor Who, the differences between directing for UK and American television, and a whole host of other topics are here for you to enjoy. Plus stats, general annoyance about the lack of a 5″ P-Cap action dollie, audio news, and all manner of jaunty amusement await you!
