As 2011 draws to a close and the Three Who Rule look forward to 2012 and the next series of Doctor Who – whenever the heck it ends up being transmitted – and also deliver their commentary for the Series 6.2 opener, Let’s Kill Hitler. We’ll see if it stands the test of time or not, mad ride that it is. And in real-life news, hearty congratulations go out to former Doctor David Tennant and former Doctor’s “daughter” Georgia Moffett on their nuptials! Now calm down, fangirls. Just. Calm. Down.
Christmas has come and gone for another year, and Santa Claus has delivered another Doctor Who special for us all to devour like so much poorly digested turkey. Steven Moffat’s The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe certainly wasn’t the centrepiece of a holiday feast for the Three Who Rule, but more of a side dish of undercooked mashed potatoes that failed to elicit any strong reaction from any of the Three. Even multiple references to that most treasured of classic Who stories, The Caves of Androzani, couldn’t prevent this year’s special from being eclipsed by last year’s momentous A Christmas Carol, mentioned here only to provide this write-up a high note to end on. Here’s another depressing note, though: no more new Doctor Who for about nine months…
<![CDATA[It's not often that we post fan productions at Radio Free Skaro, but we felt this was too impressive a production to ignore! Created by Kevin Kittridge, co-directed, shot, and edited by Richard Schultz, and featuring a cast of characters and costumes from Bob Mitsch (who many will know or know of from Gallifrey One), this six-minute music video called "Doctor Who and the Universal Vacation" is a truly impressive creation. Have a look at it below, and check out Kevin’s blog post here for how the project came to being.
With just a week to go until the 2011 Doctor Who Christmas Special, the Three Who Rule cast their eyes back to a simpler time, before River Song was related to the Ponds and when a baby could turn into a puddle of goo and still be broadcast pre-watershed. Yes, “A Good Man Goes to War” was our commentary this week, with all the usual off-topic and off-color discussion you’ve come to know and somewhat tolerate. Add chatter of our live show at Gallifrey 2012 (two months from now!), news of departing companions, Season 7’s structure, and Fendahl action figures, and you’ve got yourself a podcast!
Roughly a month after the UK gets the home video release of the upcoming Christmas special, The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe, folks in North America will be able to buy their own copy on Blu-Ray and DVD.
With a February 14 release date, the special features available on either edition are a special Christmas episode of Doctor Who Confidential – though oddly the one from 2010 – and Doctor Who at the Proms. So yes, it’s the bonus material the UK got last year. At least that’s what initial reports are saying. We’ll see if that changes at all to perhaps include the (last-ever) new Confidential material shot for this year (before the show was cancelled) and/or anything else.
Three Best Of… supplements are said to be included as well.
MSRP will be $14.98 for the DVD and $19.89 for the Blu-Ray.
What started out as just another day with just another Radio Free Skaro episode rapidly ballooned into a furor of hype and rumour and finally confirmation as the BBC announced that two Classic Doctor Who episodes, Galaxy 4, Part 3 (entitled Air Lock) and The Underwater Menace, Part 2, had been returned to their archives. There were other things happening in the world of Who, like some DVD news, a rather cool prequel to the upcoming Christmas Special, and even the Global iPlayer going beyond the confines of the iPad, but really, what could hold a candle to the news of New! Classic! Doctor! Who! 2 down, 106 to go…
In some exciting news, the BBC today announced that two previously missing episodes from Classic Doctor Who have been returned to the BBC archives!
Air Lock, episode 3 from Galaxy 4, a story which was previously completely missing (save a few minutes presented on the Lost In Time DVD set), has been located and returned to the BBC along with episode 2 of the Patrick Troughton story The Underwater Menace.
Given it’s been more than 7 years since the last announced recovery of a missing episode we’re more than a little excited by the news even if the stories in question aren’t exactly classics.
Only 106 missing episodes left to go…
And to whet the appetite, here’s a clip from Galaxy 4:

The Radio Times has a great article about the find, and the BBC itself has posted a lovely piece. The discoveries were presented at the Missing Presumed Wiped event in London.
