The BBC has at long last unveiled the new Doctor Who logo for Matt Smith’s foray into time and space travels. The Doctor Who blogs and the Twitterverse asploded.
So…………….. what do we all think of the new logo for Series 5/1/31?
A “DW” TARDIS shape. Lens flares. No title sequence to put it in perspective or context. BIG BLOCK LETTERS.
Is it too soon to say we’re underwhelmed? No? Right then.

Doctor Who: Radio Free Skaro 
Hrmm. The logo itself is pretty good. It evokes eras past while having an identity all its own. But that DW-Tardis-brand-thing keeps me thinking, what foul too-cute graphical functions might that serve? Will it spin and turn? Will it open up and reveal Matt Smith’s head in the title sequence? Oh dear, the possibilities are endless.
I should probably sleep on it but my first impression is that it looks completely fan-made. From the overused lens flare to the gimmicky and unnecessary TARDIS…I don’t like it at all. Maybe it will grow on me though…
It makes me think that there was someone in the room going ‘We need more cowbell!’
while it will no doubt grow on me right now I tend to think it looks lopsided and clunky which is guess isn’t the worse way to describe Doctor Who. And those lens flares haven’t be moved passed those yet? didn’t the new star trek movie have enough lens flares to fill the next 5 years? Time for a new graphic effect.
Just found out about it, and I emailed chris before I came here, more or less I’m still not sure what I think of the new logo, I think I was just getting use to the one they have been using.
Am I the only person who really like’s this? I love the TARDIS light forcing its way through the darkness–and I really like the color palate. Oh well…maybe I’m just willing to find the good in things. Maybe I’m not a nerd after all, then…
We need a counter that is counting down the time till the new season.
@Mike: The new season that has no formally announced launch date, you mean? =)
@Erik: You might just be the only person who really likes it. I’m actually quite digging on the logo itself but the DWARDIS is really not nice in my opinion.
