| In some exciting news, the BBC today announced that two previously missing episodes from Classic Doctor Who have been returned to the BBC archives!
Air Lock, episode 3 from Galaxy 4, a story which was previously completely missing (save a few minutes presented on the Lost In Time DVD set), has been located and returned to the BBC along with episode 2 of the Patrick Troughton story The Underwater Menace. The Radio Times has a great article about the find, and the BBC itself has posted a lovely piece. The discoveries were presented at the Missing Presumed Wiped event in London. Given it’s been more than 7 years since the last announced recovery of a missing episode we’re more than a little excited by the news even if the stories in question aren’t exactly classics. Only 106 missing episodes left to go… And to whet the appetite, here’s a clip from Galaxy 4: http://www.bbc.co.uk/emp/external/player.swf And a clip from the newly-returned episode of The Underwater Menace: http://www.bbc.co.uk/emp/external/player.swf Additionally, Classic DVD Extras producer Ed Stradling compiled a report on today’s announcement/event: |

A bumper crop of fantastic interviews highlights this week’s episode of Radio Free Skaro! Steven, our man in…er…Chicago managed to talk to Mark Sheppard about his lifelong passion for Doctor Who and his desire to return to the show, Benjamin Cook talks about his experiences writing The Writer’s Tale with Russell T Davies, Nick Briggs and Jason Haigh-Ellery discuss Tom Baker’s long awaited return to the role of The Doctor (in audio form), as well as say all that they can about the upcoming project to animate the missing episodes of The Reign of Terror, and Robert Shearman mentions Volume 2 of Running Through Corridors in between mouthfuls of pizza and beer. | The lead time for the announcement of the Sarah Jane Adventures Series 4 release in North America is short, but Warner has finally let it be known that December 6 will see the series come out on DVD.
Blu-Ray release news hasn’t yet been announced, so as far as we know it’s up in the air if we’ll get a high definition release of the series, which includes the return of Jo Jones (née Grant) and the appearance of Matt Smith, but hope springs eternal of course. No extras were announced in the press release, but you can take a look at the press release at TV Shows On DVD. MSRP for the release is $29.98 in the US and, oddly, $37.48 in Canada. | March 13, 2012 sees a bumper crop of Doctor Who DVD releases in North America!
Not only do we get the entirety of the next Revisitations set, another title in the form of The Face of Evil is on the slate for a grand total of four stories that month. The Tomb of the Cybermen gets the Special Edition treatment as do The Three Doctors and The Robots of Death. These stories comprise the third wave of Revisitations titles which will have a UK release date not far in advance of the North American release. Some of the special features and more details for each release can be found at TV Shows On DVD; we’ve already covered some of the other special features here on Radio Free Skaro. MSRP for each of the Revisitations titles is $34.98 while The Face of Evil has an MSRP of $24.98. Click on the artwork for larger versions. Update: Complete extras have now been announced for these titles. Many have of course already been covered previously on Radio Free Skaro. |

With Steven special corresponding from Chicago TARDIS, and with The Doctor Who Book Club’s Erik joining the Three Who Rule to offer his trenchant insights on fannish Who goings-on, this episode is chock full of things in the American Mid-West that involve a Doctor Who convention. Such things include an interview with Peter Davison, an RFS first, even if he’s Doctor the Fifth. Of course it wouldn’t be an episode of Radio Free Skaro without the usual news, sardonic analysis and nerdery. Enjoy! |

The dark cloud from last week’s pirate adventure has lifted and The Three Who Rule are able to take solace in blathering over one of the best-received episodes of Doctor Who from this past series. The Doctor’s Wife gets the commentary treatment, and – short story even shorter – it’s just as well-loved this time around as when we first saw it half a year ago. Also, as we start to gear our brains toward conventions such as Chicago TARDIS and Gallifrey One, we sink our teeth into some details about the recently-announced official convention. Does it sound worthwhile? |

Well, it had to come to this eventually – a slow news week and a duff episode of Doctor Who to be commented on both occurring on the same episode of Radio Free Skaro. With little in the way of actual news to discuss, the Three Who Rule instead bandied about their mostly positive experiences while playing the new Doctor Who Adventure game, The Gunpowder Plot. And with equally little in the way of actual good Doctor Who, the Three meandered into discussions about Justin Bieber and the films of director Peter Weir. You have been warned. |
