Radio Free Skaro #1058 – Pier Pressure

Unapologetic RTD2 enthusiast that I am, I feel compelled to give a case for the defence re: the Doctor giving his whole biog to Ruby at the start of Space Babies. To me, this comes over as a writer very aware of what Gen Z viewers in particular would expect to see from a 2024/5 lead character worthy of their time and trust. Day one disclosure, openness, the scope for an informed decision about joining him on board. Time has moved on from when Nine could alternate dramatically (compelling as it was in its own right) between charm and passive-aggressive drip-feeds of information to someone having discrete panic attacks about the context-less overwhelm of it all when out of his line of sight and the audience took it on trust that it would all settle down into a more equal footing. Personally I found it refreshing, and very of the now, that the so-called info-dump was done. We panic too much about that as fans (the ‘not-we’ will flee, help!) when the real danger can sometimes be with breadcrumbing stuff as though it was necessarily more mature or sophisticated. just my take, and I know you have your own reasons for feeling as strongly as you do about the vibe/quality of the era as a whole. Still a loyal and grateful long-term listener (you’ve got me through some tough times over many years) even though you guys are killing me this last while with all the (to be fair, highly uncharacteristic) sustained extreme negativity about the show.
